Hello children, do you want to plunge into the past?

500 years ago, farmers in many German villages stopped their work and fought for more freedom and rights against the nobility. That was what people called the Peasants' War back then. In our State Exhibition you can see why they did it and how people lived back then. We are planning a colorful program just for you!

Are you still in the nursery? Then you can research all kinds of exciting things here on the site. Come with us on a journey through time!

Note: Above in the picture there is already a lot to discover for you!

The Mühlhausen Marienkirche has the highest church tower in Thuringia! It is almost 87 meters high. Those with a head for heights can see the entire medieval imperial city from here.

By the way: In 1525, Thomas Müntzer preached in this church and set up a rainbow flag behind the sermon chair for everyone to see.

The rainbow is a biblical symbol for God's connection with humanity: In the Old Testament it is reported that after the flood God said to Noah: “I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.” This symbol now became an attribute of the peasant movement in Thuringia.
Cannons in the church?

Cannons in the church?

Would you have thought that cannons were being cast in this church?

That's exactly how it happened! During the Peasants' War, the walls of the Kornmarktkirche in Mühlhausen experienced looting and iconoclasms, sales negotiations for church treasures and vestments and, ultimately, the melting and subsequent casting of church bells in required artillery.

Memo game for time travelers

Have your crayons ready! Simply download the template, print it out, color it in and cut it out. And off you go: distribute the cards on the table, turn them over individually and find the double motif.

Tip: If you glue colored paper to the back, the playing cards will be more stable. But of course only in one color - otherwise it will be too easy ;-)
